Dirty Jobs uses this where big cams dont go /great 2nd angle cam

Update 9-16-2010 This is no longer their top of the line cam - the new one is based on this camera but includes a GPS and tags your images with location. You'll need their viewer to see the map movement as the video plays.Update: 7-2010Tonights episode of Dirty Jobs showed this camera strapped to a head strap for the host, Mike Rowe, who was 408 feet above the cement floor decending & window cleaning in Hawaii. Troy chickened out on the first 100 feet so alot of the contour HD footage made it into the show. By the 300 foot balcony they got troy on the ropes but his hair got snagged in the safely line and had to get his second "shearing" on Dirty Jobs - it was also filmed on contour HD cams 300' above hawaii. The quality was as good as the cable company could deliver in their 6:1 re-compression of HD. A full HD viewfinderless camera has value when you must get the shot.using a sandisk 16GB microSD card and the maximum detail [1080P] + best quality I... 4/5 HMMWV "God, Country, Corps" (santa clara, CA USA) - See all my reviews, December 11, 2009

    Great Camera for night skating

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:44 MinsThis is a video of a couple of laps around the John Rose Oval shot at 10 PM under artificial lighting. I thought that the images were good with expected wide angle distortion.I purchased this camera to record my speed skating at the John Rose Oval in Roseville, Minnesota. Most of my skating sessions are from 9:20 to 10:25 PM. The lighting is similar to a baseball or football field. I had some concerns about reviews that said that this camera was not that good in low light conditions but the images looked good to me.In terms of ease of use, I don't think you can really beat this camera. The instruction manual is microscopic and you are up to speed on the available controls within a very short period of time. One of the frequent criticisms of the camera is wind noise coming through in the video. It turns out that you can preset the sound level with the software that comes with the camera as a download off the MicroSD card... 5/5 George Dawson (St. Paul, MN USA) - See all my reviews, December 5, 2009

    Great point of view camera

I bought this camera primarily to be used for motorsports (autocross, track days, time attack, etc.) but took it on my recent ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado. I'll update the review once motorsport season comes around. With the GoPro HD and ContourHD 1080p coming out around he same time for the same price point I did a lot of research on both. I was already biased against the GoPro having owned the original Hero Cam Wide.Mounting--------The quick sliding of the GoPro is pretty simple, but the parts that you have to screw and unscrew are difficult. The screws were hard to tighten and it's too easy to lose the screw and/or nut. I also managed to break one of the mounts by dropping it - a bit too easy to break in my opinion. Getting the correct angle by stringing the screw mounts together was a challenge as well.I like the ContourHD mount a lot more. It just slides on and off and locks into place. While skiing, I was able to slide it off and... 4/5 PR (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews This review is from: ContourHD 1080p Helmet Camera (Camera) I bought this camera primarily to be used for motorsports (autocross, track days, time attack, etc.) but took it on my recent ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado. Great HD Camera for Adventure Minded People

I have used this camera a couple of times since receiving it for Christmas. I have used both the strap mount for my vented bicycle helmet as well as the permanent stick on mount for my dual sport motorcycle helmet. In both cases, the mounts work as well as the camera. I still have the previous generation GoPro HERO in standard definition, but not in the wide field of view lens configuration like the current HD version. I like the wide field of view of this HD model. It is great at giving a very good view of both the trail as will as your handlebar movements while riding both my mountain bike or motorcycle. The quality of the video is fantastic. The files do get large, but that is to be expected with the high resolution of this camera. I have been using a 16GB SDHC card and have filed up about half of it on one battery charge. I would recommend a high speed card reader to improve the download times from the card. A 12 min video was nearly a gigabyte. I really want to love this camera. **Updated

This is close to being a perfect example of a wearable/mountable POV camera. But unfortunately, close isn't quite good enough. The pros:Video is awesome, in all of the modes.Stills are very good quality, the timelapse feature is fantastic. It's waterproof. The mounting options are (almost) limitless. The cons:It's awkward to set up. Menu is like something from 20 years ago.Firmware issues have yet to be addressed by the manufacturer. This is inexcusable as the camera has been available for sale for nearly a year.Audio is useless. They could have saved weight and cost by just not including a mic. The only instance where it even sort of works is when mounted right near a loudish sound you want to highlight, such as an engine. There are too many instances where "Macgyvering" is required to get the desired result. Super Sports Camera

I bought this HD camera to replace a which didn't survive getting run over by my SUV. The Hero is a well constructed camera, very solid feeling with quality construction.Pros: The camera has four modes - video (in several resolutions), still pictures, self-timer still pictures, and interval photos (pictures every few seconds). The lens gives a tremendously wide wild view which is nice for HD's 9:16. It will shoot 1080p, 960p 720p (at 30 and 60 frames per second), and 480 (at 60 frames per second) line resolutions. It uses standard SDHC memory cards and has an internal battery which recharges via a USB cable. The recorded audio is very good both inside and outside of the motor sports waterproof case that came with my kit. Video is relatively good, not as vivid as a dedicated camcorder but the... 5/5 Paul Claxton (Riverside CA) - See all my reviews, January 3, 2010

    BEST FOR MILITARY/TACTICAL USE

I want to first start by saying I have them all, the GoPro the Contour HD and the Contour Roam. I am stationed in remote Afghanistan and go out on foot patrols frequently. The other cameras require FAR too much prep time to be tactically practical. This one is amazing because it is one switch and done (ON)!! I keep it mounted with the adhesive mount to my Kevlar and it is always ready to go. The others require you to turn them on and have them on standby this is not preactical when the action starts. The image quality is as good as you want, except at night, but that is just a sacrifice you have to make on all cameras of this type. If you are a soldier you want THIS CAMERA!! Dont waste your money on the GoPro, it doesn't fit a soldier's style. Combine the images with iMovie and you can churn out very nice AAR's for your soldiers to learn from. 5/5 Rob M.D. (Texas) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great HD camcorder for the range

Well, I've taken the Contour Roam out to a few range trips now and I can give a much better review at this point.Build Quality: 10/10As soon as you pick up the Contour Roam, you will definitely notice the build quality of the device. It feels very solid with an aluminum tube body. The lower half where the mounting options would go is made of plastic but is securely attached to the main body. The camera angel can be adjusted by turning the front end of the device; it turns with a fluid motion and distinct notch at the -90, 0, 90, and 180 positions.Clarity: 9/10I was really impressed with the clarity of the lens - particularly at longer distances of about 15-20 yards. If your expectations for a device like this are reasonable, you'll be happy with the image quality. In the video that I made, I used a Canon S100 and the Contour Roam. You can definitely tell a difference in the image quality if you compare the two. That being said, the Contour... 5/5 J. Dang - See all my reviews, December 13, 2011

    Don't believe the marketing hype...

I've only used the camera a couple of times so far... the first of which was during a consistent light rain while mountain biking out on the trails here in the Pacific Northwest. In the product description you'll find a whole paragraph describing how this unit is "super tough" and how the "ContourROAM is made to withstand encounters with everything from eating mud puddles", etc. After one outing in not super tough conditions I wound up with the front glass (or plastic, not sure what it's made of) having scratches in it from me wiping it clear while riding down the trail so that I could film. This is not a huge deal for me as most surfaces will scratch when rubbed with wet dirt, fine, I get that. So, I contacted Contour describing what happened and asked if I could order some replacement glass for the front or if the existing lens refresh kits would work. Here's the reply from Contour:There are currently no replacement lenses available. Best Helmet Camera for Snowboarding

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:24 MinsOVERVIEW:I own the Contour GPS (C-GPS = 1080p) and Contour HD (C-HD = 720p). Primary use - capturing HD snowboarding footage in conditions varying from blue bird sunny days to snowy flat light days.VIDEO QUALITY: (5 out of 5)The Contour GPS (C-GPS) features some much needed improvements over its predecessor, especially when capturing footage in low light conditions. Where the C-HD's video quality suffered on overcast/snowy days, the C-GPS excels. Subtle details in terrain (fresh vs tracked snow, etc.) are now clearly visible. 1080p HD video quality is excellent, and looks great on my 52" LCD TV.PORTABILITY / EASE OF USE: (5 out of 5)The C-GPS is the same size and shape as the original C-HD helmet cam, with the exception of the record toggle switch which now sits a few millimeters higher for easier operation. A welcomed improvement especially when wearing gloves/mitts. Turn the camera on, and two red laser sights... 4/5 Sweet Jones "WCW" (USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great on Paper- Disappointing in the Field

I really wanted to like this product, and it definitely has some great features. But in practice, the camera and its accessories unfortunately were disappointing.I purchased the Contour GPS, along with the newly available connect-view card, for a safari trip in Africa. I also purchased a spare battery. There are some major design flaws that quickly became apparent.THE "HIDDEN BUTTON"-- I suspect this design flaw is not yet called out because the use of the "hidden button" is quite new. You can now add a "Connect View" card to the Contour GPS which gives it bluetooth capability, and thus the ability to link to an iPhone so that the phone can be used as a viewfinder. This is a very cool feature and it worked just fine. The problem is that to activate the bluetooth, you press on a "hidden button", which is just a button located underneath a plastic top layer. That's the problem. The plastic top layer is very weak, and after I pressed the hidden... 2/5 Doug Colt "dwcolt" (San Carlos, CA) - See all my reviews, April 21, 2011

The Contour GPS camera is a fantastic product, in theory. The form factor and feature set exceed the GoPro in many ways. However: There is a KNOWN problem with the video quality. Contour is baffled and there is no reason to believe they will fix it before you lose your ability to return the device. I would absolutely not buy this camera until they fix this. As Amazon will nto allow us to post links, just go to the Contour customer support area and read the long thread about this camera. We had to return 3 of these to Amazon.1) Could not upgrade firmware - USB port problem2) The battery clip broke off (a common issue)3) Video quality was horrible (a common issue)Thankfully Amazon's polices are AWESOME about returns. Customer Video Review Length:: 3:25 MinsThis thing is great. I tried the Oregon Scientific ACT3K and the picture quality of the Muvi is far better. The Veho folks aren't doing us or themselves any favors by shipping it with such a sub-standard memory card though. At first I was slightly disappointed until I put in a 4Gb class 2 MicroSDHC card I had lying around. What an improvement. I've got a couple 8Gb class 6 cards on the way so I should be all set. Some things to note:1. Files are limited to 30 minutes at which time it will start a new file.2. For some reason all files are dated 12/31/2000 12:00 AM3. Files are huge. The 3:25 min. video I submitted was edited in Movie Maker and saved as a WMV at 2mbps and is 52Mb. You won't find one this tiny for this price with this quality

I've bought 3 or 4 cameras of this type for use at work. I've bought 2 different helmet cameras that worked kind of okay, but this one knocks it out of the park. The case is built like a tank, it's very easy to use. The voice activated function is great. I'm using an 8gb chip in mine, so I can't talk about the quality problems I've heard about when using the 2gig chip that ships. I've used it the past couple days testing it by using the clip mount to clip it under my rear view mirror facing forward and I can tell you there are no police dashboard cameras that can beat the video. The camera focuses perfectly through the windshield and the angle of view is wide enough to capture a perfect scene. Low light is great, used it at a shooting range yesterday and once I figured out the proper placement the videos were great even in reduced lighting. If you need a tiny camera with great quality this is the one. My one complaint was when I installed the driver disk I began getting com errors... 5/5 William Taylor "usms" (Dayon, Ohio) - See all my reviews, December 16, 2009

Purchased one of these and promptly rigged it up on the tiedown mount of an RV8 aircraft and flew it thru barrel rolls and high speed (200mph+) passes at airport. Camera did a very good job, only a slight pause for some unexplainable, reason (very slight). Handled the lighting variables in good shape. Excellent for the cost, and this is coming from a retired USAF Motion Picture Cameraman who has done several kinds of these applications on higher speed aircraft. 5/5 Sam Sullivan (Gulfport, MS United States) - See all my reviews, January 15, 2010

    Tachyon Ops HD GunCam Review

First impressions: The first thing I thought as I opened the box and held it in my hand was how small it is, the second was how well made it is. My intent for the camera was to use it as a gun cam -- mounted on my hunting rifle. I've used 3 other cameras for this purpose in the last year, and of the 4 cameras, the Tachyon camera is by far the smallest (roughly 1/3 the size of the second smallest), and most well built. Of the previous 3 cameras, one felt like it was made in the Soviet era 80s, the other just felt flat out cheap, and the 3rd was pretty decent, but not as well made as this.Further observations: It struck me that the major difference between the 4 cameras, the other 3 cameras were made around the parts -- i.e. the developers had the parts, and kind of made the camera around those parts. The Tachyon camera feels like it was specifically engineered for a task, and those parts were designed to fit inside the parameters of that task. For example, the... 5/5 Robert J. The new Tachyon OPS HD is a must have for the outdoor enthusiast!!!

As a former owner of the Tachyon XC cam, when I saw that the OPS HD I had to get one. I can tell you that Tachyon has done a wonderful job of improving this new cam in so many ways. I have to agree with the other reviewers that the audio is absolutely amazing. It picks up every word and sounds fantastic when you watch your vids on your TV. The video quality is also amazing, as I would expect from Tachyon. Being that I have an online firearms blog, I just had to try the gun cam mounting kit. This is probably the biggest improvement that Tachyon has made in my opinion. I owned the first gun cam mount that Tachyon sold and while fun, it was very limited to the type of weapon you could mount it to and which way you could rotate the camera without changing the orientation of the video. Not with their new kit...I have mounted the camera to every firearm I own including my AR-15's, tactical shotgun, my bolt action 30-06 and even my Glock and Kel-Tec PF9 hanguns. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA!!!!

My review title says it all, but I will explain why you should not buy it.This camera is advertized as an "action sports" camera. I bought it to use on patrol in my deployment (Army). I was very disappointed. All I wanted was a camera that could get decent video to show the folks back home what this country is like. This camera could not even handle walking around, much less "sports" or "action." The attachment for the camera to the strap is easily bumped up and down, and even when "clicked into" a certain level, it has a lot of give, meaning that unless you wrap it in duct tape or something, it will never stay steadily in the direction you want it. 2 out of 3 videos I took were either too high or too low even though I carefully adjusted it with the aiming red light before setting out (remember, I just used it for walking around - no crazy stuff). The cap on the back of the camera that holds the batteries and memory card in comes loose from as simple a jolt as... 1/5 Rather upset - See all my reviews This review is from: Action Sports Helmet Camera (30FPS) (Electronics) My review title says it all, but I will explain why you should not buy it.This camera is advertized as an "action sports" camera. Batteries Run Out Quickly

I mounted this camera on my helmet while flying an ultralight. First recording was 27 minutes. I thought this was because of the 1GB SD card I used. I replaced this with an 8GB; same recording duration. It seems that the batteries (alkaline) cannot go beyond 30 minutes at most. The rear cover which holds the batteries and the SD card is fragile. Not a very robust product. 2/5 Ricardo C. Morales (Makati City, Metr-Manila Philippines) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Video comes out good...when it works

(I in no way blame the seller). This camera was simple to use and operate. Just a couple problems:1. Seems to take a while once turned on to realize its on, so once you load the batteries and SD Card, give it 3-5 min to let the camera realize it has a card inside it.2. Sometimes it doesnt work properly, and the only way to fix it is to open the back and pull the batteries out(while on). This is the only solution because once it turns on and gliches, it doesnt acknowledge that a SD card is loaded and wont allow you to turn it offGood news:1. When it does work, video and audio come out great, especially considering how low the megapixels are2. Easy to operate (when functioning properly)3. Head strap adjusts very easily and was able to adjust into the most ackward of positionsI would give it 5 stars since it was cheap and vid quality is great, but since it seems to gliches off and on, i have to kep a star for myself. But i will be... 4/5 B. Thomas "USAFTIGER16" (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews, September 24, 2011

    Great Cam! With issues....

Let me start by saying that this cam makes great, clear video. It lasts beyond the rated 2hrs. using rechargeable batts. An 8gb card gives about 1:50 of record time, @ 2gb per 30 mins. A 16gb card would let you max out the batt. life. I gave it 4 stars for a few small(sort of) issues. The mounting systems have limited adjustment, and very limited instructions. The H.bar mount sits very high, and has no provision for screw tightening, you pull it tight like a tie-wrap. The helmet and goggle strap mounts require bending a plastic tab, and pulling the base completely out of the mount to adjust the vert. angle, something near impossible to do if you're already wearing it. You need eyes on to do it right, and not break it. The stick-on helmet mount has no side to side adjustment, so you better get it pointed right on the first try. It also has very limited tilt range, so it almost has to be where the goggle strap goes anyway. There's no provision for top mounting, only side... 4/5 A. For the $, best helmet cam

This is very cheap compared to every other action camera out there. And what do you give up? Not a whole lot.Cons:It is not totally waterproof, but after a lot of ski days, it has no issuesThe files it creates are huge - about 70mb/minPros:Comes with lots of mounts, the goggle mount works greatImage quality is very very good. People hear "HD" and think that is what matters. Really, the lens, image processor, white balance, contrast etc etc matter more, and they are really good on this little guy.Small and light. I have used the GoPro HD and its like skiing with a weight on one side of your head.$77!! Its so much cheaper than your other options - which also charge for mounts. This is a great little camera. Originally bought for my little bro for skiing, we have been both using it, and I will be getting another one for me shortly. 5/5 ander498 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) meh, should have spent more on a better camera

I use this with my dual sport motorcycle. First the helmet strap isn't long enough to go around a helmet so I had to use the sticker mount. That worked fine. Next, the unit I got was an open box return and the usb port was messed up. They sent me a new one. No problem. Then I got to actually take it out and use it and here is what I found out.Going faster than 10mph it picks up the wind noise so bad you have to mute the sound. Also picks up a horrible high pitch whistle. The video looks passable when you watch it at its native size but if you expand it to full screen on your computer or TV you can't pick out any details. Everything is very pixelated. Which since it is I think 640X480 that is what you can expect.Colors are washed out too. I kept saying to myself " I can't wait to get home and show the kids my video of how beautiful it is here" and then I get home and it is just crappy video quality. I am going to save up for a go-pro. You get what... 2/5 M. Fields - See all my reviews, June 4, 2011

    Love this camera!

I chose the Tachyon Micro HD after researching the other brands and I feel I made the right choice. The Tachyon Micro HD is the perfect little camera for me. I can take it to the lake or to the track. It has a great battery life and a perfect mounting system. The fact that the camera is waterproof as is, is just absolutely amazing. And the picture quality underwater is second to none. The Micro HD takes a Micro SDHC card up to 32GB, so you can get tons of footage. The 125 degree field of vision is just the right size, avoiding the fish-eye look that is common in the other brands. So, if I only had one camera to pick, it would be the Tachyon Micro HD. 5/5 C. Tachyon Micro

Just got my Micro HD in the mail!!!! STOKED! This thing is small ,lightweight, and takes killer video! And for the price it's packed with features other helmet cams lack.. like being fully waterproof! Read the specs on this camera, I have Last years models (I buy new models as they are released.. Ya I have a helmet cam fettish)and this one I'm sure will be up to par with my others. These Tachyon's have never let me down If your in the market for a tough helmet cam that does it all you'd better buy the Micro. You can never have too many helmet cams to catch all the action. The HD video is tops! Just search YouTube for Tachyon and you'll see what I'm talking about.. 5/5 Gonzalo Curiel - See all my reviews This review is from: Tachyon Micro HD Helmet Camera (Electronics) Just got my Micro HD in the mail!!!! One of my best purchases!!

I have been dealing with Tachyon for over 3 years now and I have only had great experiences. One thing that kept me going was their customer service. They are very enthusiastic with their work and will do their best to answer any questions. Their employees are very educated and friendly. Now onto the product. Before the HD micro, I started with the 480p micro 3 years ago. It was indestructible, waterproof to over 100 feet, decent sound quality for an internal microphone, and lightweight. The 2011 Micro HD followed the older version with only improvements and no flaws. The HD version records in 720p, the sound quality increased, it is still indestructible, and now it is lighter by a little. I am very pleased with this product and not surprised. I have taken this camera through Airsoft, Skiing, and skiing. Not once did the camera fail on me. I have no worries of an airsoft bb hitting the lens and breaking it. Plus it comes with a lens protector for extra strength. I have... 5/5 Barbara Hammershoy "Amazed@whatyousee" (WANTAGH, NY United States) - See all my reviews, November 5, 2011

Good Camera - Simple Sound Quality Fix

I am a police officer and I use this camera when interviewing people. I was initially disappointed with the sound quality, but found the video and capacity with the 2gig card excellent. The problem with the sound is the waterproofing. If you are not going to be using it in water or wet environments all you have to do is remove the mic cover and there is a black square rubber cover over the mic. It is 1mm or thicker and causes the sound distortion and lack of range. Remove it an re-install the cover and you get as good a sound as any other video camera. This camera is well made and a good value at the price. If it had an external mic jack it would rate five stars. 4/5 Shawn K. Tolley - See all my reviews, August 28, 2007

Good idea, good video, poor quality

I bought this after being involved in an auto accident and suffering an insurance rate increase because I couldn't prove what happened. Less than three months later I was hit by another driver who ran a red light. She and her passenger claimed she had a green light. I had this mounted on the dashboard and recording as I was hit and was able to prove she was lying. Without it I would have been blamed for the accident. It paid for itself already. The camera provides reasonable quality video but very poor audio. It does not operate well in low light conditions (say 30 minutes after sunset). It's very easy to use and has the ability to change resolution, frame rate, date and time, and also to delete files using the built in display and buttons. At 640x480 30fps a 2Gb card (4Gb not supported) can hold about one hour of video. At 15fps it can record about 90 minutes. It only records videos up to 45 minutes, then seamlessly starts another file. It eats batteries so I bought two... 5/5 Terry Hutt (Running Springs, CA) - See all my reviews, January 23, 2008
